Solar Charging

Automatically charge your EV with surplus solar power from your Solarman system. Solar surplus charging made easy.

Dynamic Tariffs

Optimize for electricity prices. Charge or run devices when rates are lowest, and use solar when prices are high.

Direct OCPP connection

Beny connects to Zerofy over OCPP, Solarman through its cloud. No extra hardware.

Solarman + Beny: TL;DR

Yes, Solarman and Beny work together in Zerofy. Zerofy reads your Solarman system through SOLARMAN Smart, and your Beny charger connects to Zerofy directly over OCPP. Zerofy adjusts the charging current to the surplus. Smart mode also follows dynamic electricity prices and solar forecasts. No extra hardware needed.

In practice

  • Zerofy adjusts the charging current of your Beny charger but doesn’t switch phases. On a three-phase connection, solar charging needs at least about 4.1 kW of surplus (6 A × 3 × 230 V); on a single-phase connection about 1.4 kW.
  • Solarman systems range from balcony kits to rooftop systems (0.8–12 kW). A balcony system never reaches the 1.4 kW needed to start charging; a rooftop system of a few kW does on bright days, and three-phase charging needs about 4.1 kW.
  • Zerofy gets new Solarman data every 5 minutes and adjusts accordingly. A minimum runtime and an activation threshold in Autopilot keep passing clouds from interrupting charging.
  • If your car is connected to Zerofy too, turn on Autopilot for either the car or the charger, not both.
  • The standard load-balancing kit is not the same as the Solar DLB box: only the solar version unlocks the PV and Hybrid modes. Via OCPP, Zerofy sets the charging power but not the phases, so on a three-phase BENY charging needs at least 6 A per phase, about 4.1 kW of surplus.

What Solarman and Beny offer on their own

Solarman: Solarman has no EV charger and no own surplus-charging function; whether surplus charging is possible depends on the inverter brand behind the logger. Deye’s SUN-EVSE charger, for example, can be monitored and controlled in Solarman when it is paired with a Deye hybrid inverter.

Beny: BENY’s own solar charging needs its Solar DLB box with current clamps at the house connection, configured in the Z-BOX app. It offers “PV” mode (keeps grid draw close to 0 A), “Hybrid” mode (solar plus grid within the DLB limit) and “Full speed”; it does not talk to the inverter.

Zerofy connects the two: it reads Solarman production and controls your Beny charger to match, together with your other devices in one app, with dynamic tariffs and forecast-based Smart mode.

Setting up Solarman and Beny in Zerofy

1. Connect Solarman

Zerofy connects to SOLARMAN Smart with your account login and reads PV production, meter (consumption) and battery data of your plant; a Solarman P1 meter reader can also be added as a separate electricity meter.

  1. Make sure your logger is online and your plant is set up in SOLARMAN Smart.
  2. In Zerofy, add an inverter, choose Solarman and log in with your SOLARMAN Smart e-mail and password.
  3. Optional: if the plant has a P1 meter, add it in meter setup under Solarman and select it from the discovered devices.

Good to know: Zerofy finds devices per plant, so a P1 meter must be assigned to a plant in SOLARMAN Smart. If a plant has both an inverter and a P1 meter, Zerofy offers two meters with the same plant-level values; connect only one of them.

2. Connect Beny

Zerofy has a dedicated BENY entry in the app, which connects via OCPP; Zerofy can then start, stop and set the charging power.

  1. In Zerofy, add a BENY charger and copy the OCPP URL.
  2. Paste it into the OCPP settings of your charger’s configuration app.
  3. Wait until the charger connects to Zerofy.

3. Turn on Autopilot

In Zerofy, open your Beny charger, turn on Autopilot and choose Solar – or Smart to also use dynamic tariffs and forecasts. Set the priority, activation threshold and minimum runtime.

Dynamic tariffs

Zerofy can also run your Beny charger on dynamic electricity prices (EPEX Spot or Nord Pool, e.g. Tibber or aWATTar) or on a fixed time-of-use tariff. Smart mode combines those prices with forecasts of your household consumption and your Solarman solar production.

About Solarman and Beny

Solarman – Solarman (IGEN Tech, Wuxi, China) does not make inverters: it makes data loggers such as the LSW-3 Wi-Fi stick and runs the SOLARMAN Smart platform, which according to IGEN works with about 200 inverter brands, including Deye. If your inverter’s app is SOLARMAN Smart, your data comes through Solarman whatever brand is on the inverter. Monitoring app: SOLARMAN Smart.

Beny – BENY is a Chinese maker of low-cost wallboxes with open OCPP 1.6J, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and an optional load-balancing kit. It is sold mainly through regional importers and installers, so availability and support depend on your local partner. Products: BENY BCP smart wallbox (7.4 / 22 kW).
